Community Expectations

  • We use appropriate language in person and on social media devoid of hate speech, bias & micro / macroaggressions.

  • We recognize and honor each individual, even if that person’s identity is different from my own.

  • We seek to understand Our impact on others while seeking to understand others’ intent.

  • We take responsibility for Our words, actions, and impact.

Pinnacles Prep values equity, diversity and inclusion. As a school, we believe that building and sustaining a school community where our students feel safe, welcomed, and belonging regardless of race, ability, religion, gender, sexual orientation, immigration status, language, political view, or social economic standing is an essential foundation to a student’s overall well-being and academic success.

Our community is made up of a diverse demographic of varying races, ethnic backgrounds, abilities/disabilities, religions, ages, languages, socioeconomic status, immigration status, sexual orientation, gender expressions or identities. Pinnacles Prep stands against all forms of hate speech, intolerance, bullying, and harassment.  For students to meet our expectations, we provide age-appropriate lessons on the topics, student expectations, and reporting mechanisms listed below.

Types of discipline = Reteaching, Loss of Privileges, Conference with Admin and/or Parent/guardian/caretakers, Out of school Suspension, Emergency Removal

*Students who receive special education services for behavioral needs may receive differentiated supports and/or discipline

**Education = Review of the handbook, crafted lessons based on behavior, social-emotional lessons, intent vs impact, use of language based on setting, etc.

When Considering Discipline: Pinnacles Prep strives to keep students in their classroom whenever possible; provide for early involvement of parents to support their own student in meeting behavioral expectations; make reasonable attempt to involve parents and their students in the resolution of behavioral violations for which discipline may be administered; and identify forms of discipline that should be administered before or instead of administering classroom exclusion, suspension, or removal to support students in meeting behavioral expectations. Disciplinary actions must be non-discriminatory, fair, age-appropriate and correspond to the severity of the student’s misbehavior.

All certificated teachers, administrators, and school bus drivers are authorized to administer discipline in accordance with Washington State law and Pinnacles Prep’s  Regulation and Procedure governing discipline. Written expectations are distributed to every student in the fall, and a complete copy of the School’s Regulations and Procedures may be obtained on our  web page. Student discipline will be administered in such a manner as to fully take into consideration the nature and circumstances of the violation, the individual circumstances of the student, and prior forms of discipline imposed upon the student. A complete list of disciplinary terms and forms of disciplinary action are included in these links for Policy 3241 and Procedure 3241P, and Policy 3241F1.

Administrators may conduct a reasonable search of a student and their personal property when there is reasonable and individualized cause or grounds for suspecting or believing that the search will turn up evidence that the student has violated or is violating the law or the rules of the school.Buying, selling, bartering items for personal gain is not allowed without permission of a building administrator.

Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Tip

There are three key indicators that help us determine if an incident violates policy 3207.

  1. Repeated - Is the behavior ongoing or taking place over a period of time?

  2. Intentional -  Is the behavior targeted at an individual or group of students?

  3. Power Imbalance - Does the individual have influence over other students? Are they in a position of influence/leadership?

It is important to note, that an incident is not required to have all of these characteristics in order to constitute a HIB violation, if you are unsure you should always report anyway and let our Dean of Students and Culture know.

As examples, the following are scenarios that would violate Procedure 3207P.

  • Harassment - A student is making racist comments to me in math class, and won’t stop even though I have asked them to. This has been going on for three weeks.

  • Bullying - Someone told all of my friends to stop talking to me and keeps spreading rumors about me. They said that the only way they will stop the rumors is if I send inappropriate pictures of myself to them.

  • Intimidation - Every day at lunch someone steals something from my lunch and says if I tell anyone they are going to beat me up. You are now afraid to attend school.
